LCCI welcomes new London - Indonesia air link
Commenting on the news that Garuda Indonesia airline will start the first non-stop flights between the UK and Indonesia, Colin Stanbridge, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said:
"This is great news for London. Businesses in the capital will now have direct air access into a new, emerging market of over 240million people.
"Indonesia is now the biggest economy in South East Asia and this new direct link from Gatwick Airport provides a real boost for London businesses looking at opportunities to trade and export.
"The new flight also opens up opportunities for inward investment from Indonesian businesses wanting to come here. We know firsthand, from our trade mission to Jakarta in April last year, that there is a strong Indonesian interest in British business.
"The Gatwick link will provide a gateway into London - and the wider UK - for that interest to be cultivated into exciting new business and commercial relationships.
"However, while a new link to Indonesia is very welcome news, there are many other emerging economies in Asia that London needs to be connected to now."
