In March 2021, HMRC introduced a new injection of grant funding for trading businesses which means you could apply for £2,000 to cover the cost of customs training or professional customs advice to help you stay HMRC compliant when trading in Europe or third countries.

Funding for Training Courses

ChamberCustoms, of which LCCI is part of, is running a series of Customs training courses. These courses give international traders the essential skills, invaluable to small and large businesses, and are eligible for the HMRC Grant Training Fund.

Please note: the training will not be delivered by LCCI. We are working with Chamber Customs, who are delivering the courses through the Accredited Chamber Network. All courses will be delivered online and have discounted rates for Chamber Members.

Before you apply for the grant and book a course, you will need to check that your business is eligible.

Candidates completing these 6 courses listed below are awarded the nationally recognised BCC Foundation Award in International Trade. These courses give international traders the essential skills invaluable to small and large businesses alike. During each course, the candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the subject, and their performance is marked by an external assessor. We are offering the following courses for the SME Brexit Grant Fund at a discounted rate when purchased as a full package from £1,500 + VAT, alternatively, courses can be selected individually from £300 + VAT per subject.

Incoterms® 2020

This British Chambers of Commerce nationally accredited course looks at the Incoterms® Rules. Each rule will be examined, the general features of the rules will be explained, and the principal differences between old and new rules and changing obligations of the parties will be highlighted.

Incoterms® (International Commercial Terms) are an essential business tool for international trade. They define the risk and cost responsibilities of each party when arranging loading/unloading of the goods, delivery, import / export clearance and freight contracts.  They may be used in contract negotiations as a checklist for buyers and sellers and as a framework for international and domestic sales contracts. This course is suitable for anyone involved in international trade, especially: Distribution, Finance and Accounts, Logistics, Procurement and Sales.

This course looks at which documents are necessary for international shipment and understand the export process. Documents are there to help get the goods into the destination country quickly and efficiently, while complying with HMRC regulations. They can offer benefits to both the exporter and the overseas customer, resulting in potential increased sales revenue.

It is vital to understand the responsibilities and obligations of all parties when trading internationally. The course is delivered as a 2-day intensive module. Export Customs Intermediary training includes a pre-course online e-learning module and the 2-day live technical training module.

This training is dedicated to Customs Intermediary Operations specifically for businesses importing goods into the UK, following our training on the exporting of goods outside of the UK. 

This course is delivered as a 2-day intensive module. You will need to have completed our ‘Export Customs Intermediary Training’ before beginning Import Customs Intermediary Training. This module includes the 2-day technical training module, simulations and support.

Import Customs Intermediary training module contents, focussing on importing goods into the UK:

We recommend that candidates attend Export Customs Intermediary Training and Import Customs Intermediary Training in succession. There is valuable information on exports that will help you to understand imports.
