Black Business Association

London Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Black Business Association (BBA) is dedicated to supporting the effective business activity of Black entrepreneurs and Black employees in the capital. 

The BBA champions success within London’s Black business community and provides a platform for Black owned businesses to network, do business and address barriers to equality.

The BBA is open to LCCI Members and the Community Network.

About the BBA

On 25 May 2020 the world witnessed the horrific murder of George Floyd. Many organisations responded with statements and BLM banners. LCCI’s CEO looked towards staff to suggest how the Chamber should respond? Tired of empty gestures, it was suggested we start a movement with tangible results for the Black Business community. It was on that day the Black Business Association was born.

Meet the BBA Committee

The Black Business Association Committee, chaired by Lord Dr Michael Hastings of Scarisbrick CBE, is dedicated to lobbying and supporting the effective business activity of Black entrepreneurs and owners, demonstrating the investable credibility of Black British business and significantly influencing the governments agenda on racial injustice, discrimination and economic empowerment.

Celebrating Black Excellence

The London Chamber Black Excellence Awards in partnership with Boisdale of Canary Wharf, celebrated the inspirational contribution of the British Black community to the cultural and economic development of the United Kingdom. This special evening honoured the exceptional and significant achievements of the Black British community.

Ethnic Diversity in Business

LCCI Paper

LCCI has published a paper on ethnic diversity in business and what is needed to remove the barriers impeding minority-led business success. The report looks at the correlation between demographics of individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds and subsequent success in business and highlights the problems that ethnic minorities face accessing finance and procurement opportunities.

BBA Member Wins TV Advert

LCCI are delighted that BBA member Segun Akinwoleola, Founder of The Gym Kitchen, was a recent winner of Channel 4 and Lloyds Bank's Black In Business initiative. The company received £100k worth of TV advertising airtime and a TV advert as part of the initiative to support and address obstacles faced by Black entrepreneurs.

LCCI report success in House of Commons Debate

Two major successes for the Ethnic Diversity in Business report include a debate in the House of Commons which focused on the report's recommendations being implemented by the Government and Mayor of London. Secondly, major fashion label, ASOS, were inspired to fund an incubation centre so that ethnic minority businesses can start-up and succeed in the fashion industry.
