LCCI responds to Mayor Boris Johnson's appointment to the Cabinet
Commenting on Boris Johnson MP's appointment to attend Political Cabinet, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Chief Executive, Colin Stanbridge, said: "We would like to congratulate the Mayor on his election to the seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip and his appointment today to attend Political Cabinet as Minister without Portfolio, he will be a strong voice for London around the Government table.
"It is vital for the success of the UK economy that London's continues to grow. We hope that the Mayor will make the case for the significant investment in transport infrastructure and housing that the capital needs to sustain the economic growth we have seen to date.
"We also hope that Boris will champion the case for greater fiscal devolution - more local say over how taxes are spent, for the major cities of Britain.
"London, however, needs reassurance that he will be able to devote the time and focus necessary, and the time and focus Londoners expect and deserve, to what until today was his full time occupation as London Mayor."
