Richard Burge, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), said:
“We agree wholeheartedly with the British Chambers of Commerce and we are furious that the Government has not announced continued energy support for businesses beyond April 2023. Because of ministerial inaction today, the risk of redundancy notices across London and the UK has increased.
“How many times can the Government, that claimed to be pro-business, U-turn on promises and neglect businesses, the drivers of economic growth and shared prosperity.
“We know that energy costs are devastating businesses. Our recent research found that in London, 75% of businesses have seen an increase in operating costs in the last year and the longer London businesses go on without knowing what long-term help might look like, the less they can feel stable enough to invest, grow and plan for the future.
“The Government must outline continued support for businesses in the UK - getting out of the cold should not mean going into the red.”
