Overview

London serves as a vital trade and investment gateway to the world, with an unparalleled ecosystem that spurs prosperity nationwide and powers global economic growth. This new series of high-level discussions will bring together leading thinkers and practitioners working at the intersection of international affairs, global trade, and foreign direct investment. They will review how the backdrop of a fast evolving global geopolitical and economic landscape is set to shape the operating environment for businesses in the capital, now and into the future.

The discussion will consider whether we have reached peak ‘deglobalisation’ and ask if the pendulum is about to swing back towards the economic integration that punctuated the decades between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our panel of experts will share their view on what this could mean for trade and investment flows going forwards, as well as the role of business in upholding multilateralism and building international cooperation, in a major political year.

The discussion will be moderated by James Landale, Diplomatic Correspondent, BBC News, who will be joined by:
•    Peter Foster, Public Policy Editor at the Financial Times
•    Evie Aspinall, Director, The British Foreign Policy Group
•    Richard Currie, Senior Director of Public Affairs, West Europe and India, UPS

Together, we will explore how business leaders can navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead, as geopolitical risks loom large over the global economy.

Following the discussion, guests will have the opportunity to network over drinks and snacks.
