Apprenticeships – a talent opportunity for your business

About Apprenticeships

About Apprenticeships

  • Apprenticeships are an exciting option for both apprentice and employer and deliver great benefits, from improved staff retention and motivation to increased productivity
  • An apprenticeship is a paid job with structured formal training
  • Apprentices spend most of their time learning in the workplace by doing their job, with 20% of their time spent on ‘off-the-job’ training
  • Apprenticeships are available across a wide range of sectors and occupations, from digital and tech to care and construction
  • Apprentices can be any age, from 16 upwards
  • Apprenticeships can be used for new entrants to the workplace and to upskill existing members of staff
  • Paid as a regular employee with the same benefits, we recommend London Living Wage
  • Apprenticeships are available from level 2 (GCSE level) through to level 7 (masters level)
Apprenticeship benefits for growing SMEs

Apprenticeship benefits for growing SMEs

  • Give new recruits to your business the skills they need to perform now and to grow with you
  • Upskill your existing workforce to build the new skills you need
  • Attract a more diverse group of staff to your business, and build a talent pipeline to match your ambitions
  • Improve retention, motivation and performance
  • Increase productivity for your business
  • As an employer, you can get funding from the government to help pay for apprenticeship training
Early Connect

Early Connect

  • Early Connect is a unique pilot running until March 2025 and is being delivered in partnership between the Department for Education, UCAS and the Greater London Authority, aiming to support more young people onto apprenticeships, and to make it easier for employers to find apprentices.
  • Employers can advertise their apprenticeship vacancies to the UCAS website, encouraging students who are exploring post-18 options to apply for apprenticeships alongside other options (including undergraduate courses), widening your audience.
  • Featuring Apprenticeships on the UCAS website gives them parity alongside degree options for those looking at their next steps following A Levels and other level 3 qualifications.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for you to attract talented young people who might not have considered a vocational route.
