LCCI Statement on the Government’s Announcement on Heathrow’s Third Runway
Tuesday 25 November 2025
The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) welcomes the Government's decision today to proceed with Heathrow Airport Limited’s third runway proposal as the basis for its future expansion. This represents a significant step forward for UK connectivity, international competitiveness and long-term economic growth.
Heathrow, alongside the other London airports, plays a critical role in supporting London’s businesses and the national economy. Expanded capacity will strengthen the UK’s global links, improve reliability for passengers and freight, and enhance the country’s ability to attract investment and support international trade. The Government’s announcement signals renewed momentum towards delivering the infrastructure that businesses have called for.
Delivering an expanded Heathrow is vital to supporting growth, creating jobs and ensuring that Britain remains a leading global hub for commerce and innovation. LCCI urges the Government to maintain pace to move swiftly towards the planning stage.
LCCI data shows that three in five London businesses believe expanding the capital’s airports will improve both London’s economic prospects and UK wide economic growth, highlighting strong confidence within the business community about the positive impact of these plans.
Karim Fatehi OBE, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said:
“Today’s announcement is a milestone for London businesses and the wider UK economy. Heathrow’s expansion is essential for strengthening our international connectivity and unlocking future opportunities for trade and investment. With global competition intensifying, enhancing our aviation capacity is crucial to ensuring the UK remains an attractive destination for international investors and trading partners. We now need decisive progress to ensure that the benefits of this project are realised for communities and businesses in London and across the country.”
