Hawai'i: a kingdom crossing oceans
In 1824, the young King Liholiho and Queen Kamamalu travelled across vast oceans from an archipelago in the North Pacific to seek an alliance with the British Crown. The journey would mark a turning point in the history of their kingdom, Hawai’i. The exhibition commemorates 200 years since this ill-fated royal visit. A compelling story of movement, alliance and cultural exchange – past, present and future – sheds light on Hawai’i’s history and culture through an exploration of the enduring relationship between the Hawaiian and British nations.
