Businesses want to work together to tackle congestion new survey finds

An overwhelming majority of London businesses think a number of innovative new policies could help tackle congestion according to new findings released today.

A survey produced for London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) by ComRes found that more than 80% of businesses surveyed thought encouraging flexible working, sharing parcels deliveries and waste delivery collections could all help reduce businesses' impact on congestion in London.

More than 500 businesses were questioned and 87% said they thought that businesses grouping parcels for companies or buildings would help mitigate the impact on congestion.

The same proportion said businesses encouraging flexible working hours would help while 83% thought businesses working together to on waste collection would work.

Chief Executive of LCCI, Colin Stanbridge said: "These findings show a great deal of realism among businesses.

"Surely it is common sense to be able to co-ordinate deliveries and collections wherever possible as well as encouraging flexible hours which can have additional benefits as well at impacting on congestion both on the roads and public transport.

"Where businesses can and are willing to take these measures they should be encouraged, however we also need to remember businesses often have individual requirements and it is not always possible to operate flexible hours."
