LCCI comment on the Metropolitan Police’s plans to expand use of technology

Wednesday 24 June 2026

Karim Fatehi OBE, CEO of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), responds to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley’s speech this morning which outlined plans to roll out further technology to help tackle crime across London:

"London businesses welcome the Metropolitan Police’s plans to expand the use of technology, AI and drones to tackle crime and improve public safety across all boroughs of the capital.

Business crime remains one of the most pressing concerns facing London firms. For many businesses, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, persistent incidents of shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and abuse of staff continue to undermine confidence, increasing costs for both businesses and consumers alike at what is already a challenging time.

It is essential that the Metropolitan Police can deploy new tools and be given flexibility to keep pace with technological advances already being adopted by criminals, without lengthy legislative delays. Backed by a fair and sustainable funding settlement that reflects the scale and complexity of policing London, LCCI supports efforts to modernise policing through the responsible use of technology, while maintaining public confidence through appropriate transparency.

Ultimately, a safer London is in everyone’s interest. It supports stronger communities, greater business confidence, increased investment and thriving high streets across the capital.”
