LCCI response to Government's plan to slash red tape

Friday 23 October 2026

Karim Fatehi OBE, Chief Executive Officer of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) commented:

“Reducing unnecessary red tape and lowering costs for businesses is welcome, and the Government’s engagement with businesses to identify where burdens can be removed is a positive step. London businesses will want to see the detail behind these proposed savings and how quickly they will translate into tangible benefits.

“But next week’s Budget must go further than incremental changes. LCCI’s latest Quarterly Economic Survey found that 60% of London businesses want the Government to prioritise lower inflation and the cost of doing business. The Budget must set a clear direction for making the UK fundamentally more competitive and attractive for investment, with meaningful action to reduce business costs, support recruitment and give firms the confidence to invest and grow.”
