LCCI says Theresa May's EU citizen offer welcome, but raises questions

Responding to the Prime Minister's offer of guarantees for EU citizens living and working in the UK, made at last night's European Council meeting, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Colin Stanbridge said:

"Many will welcome some clarity at last about their valued employees however sadly the past years uncertainty has seen some EU nationals leave London.

"So while welcome the Prime Minister's statement it raises two important questions. From when is the five year period assessed? And what post-Brexit immigration system will we have for future migrants?

"That is why we are calling for an evidence based approach based on need rather than arbitrary caps, numbers or general promises.

"This includes a Shortage Occupation List, London Visas for those already employed here and properly issued work permits for those from outside the UK to come and live and work in the London area."
