Make Heathrow the first big decision after the Referendum says Business

London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called on the Government to make a decision on Airport expansion its first priority following the EU Referendum.

London's most representative business organisation says that following the vote on 23rd June, the Government must finally respond to the recommendations of the Airports Commission.

LCCI has long been an exponent of London airport expansion, calling for immediate action on Heathrow, which David Cameron had promised by the end of 2015.

Chief Executive of LCCI, Colin Stanbridge said: "Government has been 'on-hold' for the past couple of months. And as a result many big decisions have been delayed.

"There are no more excuses to delay a new runway decision - and one of the most crucial decisions for the sake of London and the UK economy".

The Referendum result is due on Friday 24th June, this should be followed by a clear decision on which airport location will be allowed to expand".

LCCI believes that there should be new runways built at both Heathrow and Gatwick, albeit in a staggered approach. As Heathrow is already operating a successful hub airport it makes sense for expansion to begin there.
