LCCI's Policy and Campaigning

We draw on our members’ experience and expertise to contribute regularly to consultations, inquiries and debates. Our practical and realistic views and suggestions help guide policy formulation and application.

UK Lobbying for Change

LCCI is the capital’s most representative business organisation – with members spanning small to multinational organisations, we reflect the broad interests of London businesses to policymakers, decision makers and opinion formers at every level.

About LCCI's Policy and Campaigning work

Lobbying for London

Our role is to explore and highlight issues that could potentially hinder the continued economic growth, success and prosperity of our great city. We aim to create an environment that aids and supports our members’ success and growth.

For more than 140 years, LCCI has been actively lobbying for London. For instance, we supported establishing:

  • Heathrow and Gatwick airports
  • Canary Wharf’s Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
  • Crossrail
  • London City Airport

Influencing

We are also a vocal campaigner, advancing the case for matters such as Crossrail 2, the new Thames river crossings, and more devolution for London.

This approach – seeking to positively influence and shape policy proposals, legislation and regulation relevant to London businesses – cements LCCI as a recognised authority for government, City Hall and public policy players.

LCCI policy activities and representatives frequently feature in the media, on TV, online and in newspapers, to highlight the interests of London businesses. Here is an overview of recent press releases.

London Recovery Board

LCCI’s Chief Executive, Richard Burge, sits on the London Recovery Board, which is co-chaired by the Mayor of London and the Chair of London Councils. It convenes leaders from across London business, governance, civil society, the health and education sectors, trade unions, and the police, to coordinate the city’s long-term recovery effort and plan for its post-COVID future.

In this capacity, our Chief Executive works to ensure that the needs of business are heard, and that their key role in London’s recovery is represented.

Central London Alliance

LCCI partnered with the Heart of London Business Alliance and Blue Orchid Hotels to form the Central London Alliance (CLA). This alliance brings together businesses, communities, charities, associations, and local authorities to pool their resources and influence for a safer, faster, and more sustainable central London recovery.

To support this recovery, the CLA produced a manifesto in September with key policy asks, including:

  • Providing sectoral help for London businesses
  • Delivering clear London-specific COVID messaging
  • Giving central London the transport it deserves
  • Helping London remain globally competitive
