    London Quarterly Economic Survey, Q4 2022 is reasonably encouraging as we start 2023. Firms in general seem to be working closer to full capacity and although domestic orders seem to be down, there is more investment and training being contemplated and recruitment is holding up.

    Savanta surveyed a total of 500 London business leaders between 20 October and 9 November 2022. All data were weighted to be representative of all London businesses by company size and broad industry sector.

    November 2022

    The sixth annual London Business 1000 report sheds light on how London businesses are tackling a range of issues, from the cost of doing business crisis to the continued skills shortages and difficulties with recruitment. The report also looks at the progress firms are making on their shift to net zero, and the types of barriers they are facing. The London Business 1000 was launched in 2017, and is a joint project between London Councils and London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

    The Capital 500 Q3 2022 suggest a fraught economic environment for London businesses.Domestic demand has turned lower again, following the recent slide in retail sales seen across the country.

    This short research note focusses on the perceptions of levelling up by London businesses, based on polling undertaken in May 2022. The aim of the research is to identify how aware London business leaders are of levelling up, what the policy means, and whether they feel London will lose out. Importantly, we want to stress the need to get away from zero-sum framing of levelling up and make the agenda more about collaboration – not competition – between regions.
