As we bid farewell to an incredible year, we're delighted to highlight the Policy and Public Impact achievements in 2023. From groundbreaking projects to meaningful collaborations, we're thankful to reflect on a prosperous year.
- Changes in the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) to ensure small firms received money to retrofit or buy new vehicles when ULEZ was rolled out to outer London and to ensure all businesses of all sizes had a grace period so they would not be fined if ULEZ compliant vehicles were not delivered in time for the start of the roll-out.
- London Mayor Sadiq Khan formally endorsed our report calling for an end to the barriers facing ethnic minority owned businesses and reformed the Greater London Authority’s procurement practices as a direct consequence -leading to SMEs across the capital winning work.
- ASOS launched a new business support service for ethnic minority-owned fashion start-ups after reading the London Chamber report on the barriers facing ethnic minority owned businesses.
- The Government amended the Procurement Act in response to London Chamber representations so that the needs of SMEs will be considered before any Government tenders are issued.
- The calls by the London Chamber for workplace modular training to support all businesses was backed by the Secretary of State for Education – impacting training provision in the capital for 2024.
- London Assembly formally backed our calls for flexible and agile training in the capital.
- The Government intervened to address issues in the insurance market so that contractors can remove dangerous cladding from buildings following London Chamber representations.
- The Greater London Authority agreed to protect land for the logistics industry – critical for just in time deliveries across London to continue.
- Work began for young Londoners to be offered entrepreneurship career advice following work by the London Chamber with the Greater London Authority.
- Our Green Skies report advocating for sustainable aviation fuel use was produced in partnership with Gatwick Airport, London City Airport, Stansted Airport, Heathrow Airport and the International Airlines Group.
- Commitment from the Greater London Authority to improve access to electric vehicle charging points across London.
- A senior Labour Shadow Cabinet Minister said a future Labour Government would accept the London Chamber’s proposal that women entrepreneurs should be at the heart of future free trade agreement negotiations.
- Conservative candidate for London Mayor, Susan Hall, backed our call for the Government to reform the Apprenticeship Levy.
