Richard Burge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said: “Rail strikes are a lose-lose and another round during the festive period will see London and its businesses suffer for no good reason. The three main actors in this dispute – the RMT, the government and the railway companies – are jeopardising businesses small and large across London and the UK who keep our economy moving.
“It is shameful that the RMT continue to consider strikes as a legitimate weapon wielded with such cynical timing. Having been in a privileged position during the pandemic, the Union is now unwilling to compromise and is throwing its toys out of the pram because it wants more.
“Meanwhile, the Government is playing a national version of the game they usually play in London; using intolerable strikes to whip up a political storm rather than seeking resolution and the railway companies are bubbling along knowing they will be bailed out if all fails – which it usually does.
“All three must realise that their incompetence and selfishness affects businesses, workers and the global reputation of London as a city for business, investment and tourism – especially during the festive period.”
