LCCI's Urban Development Roundtable with Jules Pipe CBE
We were delighted to welcome Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor of London for Planning, Regeneration and the Fire Service, to our Urban Development Roundtable, bringing together senior leaders from business and education to discuss the future of London’s growth and development.
With consultation on the draft London Plan recently closing, the discussion explored the Mayor’s priorities for planning and regeneration, housing delivery and affordability, commercial development, infrastructure investment and transport connectivity, including opportunities for growth around well-connected stations and Heathrow expansion. Participants also discussed London’s industrial and logistics needs, maintaining business access as places evolve, and the importance of developing skills pipelines into construction, architecture and planning.
A recurring theme was the need to align London’s growth ambitions with the practical realities of delivery. Planning certainty, viable development, infrastructure funding and strong collaboration between business, government and education providers will be essential to delivering the homes, jobs and investment the capital needs, while maintaining safety, resilience and competitiveness.
These issues are central to Choose LDN., LCCI’s campaign to make London the world’s most attractive city to do business in. The insights shared will help inform LCCI’s ongoing planning and built environment policy work, supporting efforts to attract investment, enable sustainable growth and strengthen London’s long-term economic success.
