LCCI welcomes Chancellor Osborne's Euston announcement

Responding to the comments by George Osborne that Euston Station should be replaced completely, Colin Stanbridge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said: "The Chancellor's announcement that he now plans a full-scale redevelopment of Euston station is great news for London.

"The area around Euston station is ripe for redevelopment and not fully renovating the station as part of HS2's construction would have been a wasted opportunity.

"HS2 will bring much needed extra capacity and connectivity to the UK and an imaginative redesign of Euston station will enhance this and underpin growth.

"However we also believe that HS2 should be directly linked to Heathrow - the UK's hub airport. Without direct air-rail links the positive effects of key infrastructure renewal projects will never reach their full potential".
