Employment Rights Bill will Hinder Businesses

Tuesday 11 March 2025

Karim Fatehi OBE, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said: "The Employment Rights Bill combined with measures in the recent Budget will impose extra costs on businesses at a time they can least afford it and hinder economic growth.

“A recent survey of hundreds of business leaders found that 76% felt that the Government has not meaningfully engaged with the business community about the Bill. 38% also predicted that the Bill's measures would lead to a hiring freeze at their firm.

"Businesses want to be hiring and investing but the Bill, and increased costs from the Budget including higher Employer National Insurance Contributions and cuts to business rate relief, will ultimately lead to a slower economy and lower investment.

"Now is the time for the Government to work with businesses to create a workable Employment Rights Bill which helps London firms to grow, invest and continue to spread prosperity around the entire UK.”
